What we’ll be doing on this workshop
Meditation
When we think of meditation, our minds might automatically go to images of people sat on cushions crossed legged in silence with eyes closed. Of course this is a perfectly valid method of meditation. However, it’s not the only way! Meditation can take many forms, it’s simply a question of trying on the different options that are available until we hit on the one than fits us best right now.
During this workshop we will be exploring the practices of Dance and Creativity as tools to connect with the qualities of meditation.
“When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds: your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction and you find yourself in a new , great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.” (Patanjali)
Dance
Creativity requires action. During the rhythmic action of dance we get into our bodies and subsequently into our body of work. Our body is a tool for deepening our connection with our creative spirit. Dance is the process by which we access this capacity.
When dance ceases to be a spectator activity, concerned with performance which is subject to both our own judgement and that of others but instead becomes an experience lead, internal dynamic between body, mind and spirit, we can create the space for the merging of our ‘self’ with the higher consciousness and the emergence of our creativity.
Creative Journaling
You will spend time creating your own unique and personal journal using beautiful papers, images, paint, words, collage and anything else that catches your creative eye to create richly textured pages. No experience in using these materials is needed as full guidance will be given. Maybe you’re are an experienced creative or artist, or maybe you have long held a ‘secret’ desire to be more creative, whatever your experience or motivation, the focus during this workshop is on allowing the process of doing the practice to evolve and absorb you. We are all more creative than we give ourselves credit for, this workshop will give you the opportunity, time and tools to tap into your creative power. This workshop is NOT about creating ART but about cultivating our creative practice in non-threatening ways.
“Any creative path and practice that emphasizes process over product will lead you deeply inward and result in health.” (Lisa Sonora)
Yoga
Our yoga practice will be gentle and accessible to most people irrespective of your experience of practising yoga. Within yoga and the concept of the chakras, swadhistana chakra is considered to be the seat of creativity energy, so we will endeavour to bring this awareness into our practice .
